Walking on frosted golf greens causes damage as the ice crystals make grass blades brittle, causing foot pressure to rupture cell walls, killing the plant; this damage isn't visible immediately but appears as brown, dead footprints days later, creating bare spots, uneven surfaces, and susceptibility to disease, which requires costly repairs and time to regrow.
